Pupils given stab-proof uniforms

It is reported in the London Metro that parents are kitting their children out in Stab-proof blazers and jumpers for school.

An Essex based firm called Bladerunner are considering setting up a new division to cope with the demand from parents to line their children's school uniforms with kevlar.

The increase in demand is believed to stem from the fact that 7 boys under the age of 16 were stabbed to death in less than 2 months this year.

One mother talking about her daughter is reported as saying "Knife crime is a real probelm facing the youth of today. She'll have a stab-proof blazer for as long as she's at school or until the Government does something about the menace on our streets."

Stab-proof uniform

I find this a bit weird. If a child is awful enough to carry a knife to school maybe you will be putting your child in the firing line of such a moron. They may attempt to "beat" the stab-proof uniform? The school and the headmaster should address the issues of children carrying knives. Search all children as they enter and leave school would be a start if the school has a history of problems. Any child found with a knife should be expelled immediately and the police should be informed.

It is very sad that it comes to this. I dont know what the answer is but I do feel sorry for the teachers and the 'normal' kids. I would hate to feel that my child was so unsafe at school, it would be a constant worry to me.
