Playtime over for Toy Companies
| MP David Drew takes the toy safety scandal to Parliament
|
 |
MP David Drew is urging Parliament to take drastic action in light of the recent scares over toy safety. A month after the new Parliamentary session began, he's committed to raising serious questions about this issue and getting some long-awaited answers.
Shockingly, despite a number of fatalities in the UK and Europe, countless pleas for change in the toy industry have been ignored on previous occasions. This time however, Drew is not willing to be dismissed, as he believes parliament is trying to pass the buck onto toy corporations, resulting in unnecessary child injury and death.
Parliament is under increasing pressure to make a move on the toy safety front and protect our children. The recent toy safety summit, and the problems faced by Mattel over toxic paint on their Chinese-made toys, has inarguably added to this pressure, but Drew is seizing the scares as an opportunity to make change happen and save children from needless harm.
Drew has been campaigning for years to no avail but recent toy safety scares have forced people to sit up and take notice. Even major toy corporations such as Disney are undertaking major reviews to reduce the possible threat to both young children, and their toy-making reputation, suggesting toy safety hasn't been as strict as it could have been for some time.
Ealing Trading Standards Officers seized hundreds of dangerous toys that contained small, easily accessible (and swallowable) batteries.
