Apprenticeships for children who fail all GCSEs
Approximately 30,000 children will leave school today without a single GCSE the Prince's Trust has revealed.
Under existing schemes these children would be forced to abandon their studies and would find it very difficult to find work. A scheme called Get Into has been piloted for 2 years and starts today expecting to launch 1,000 apprenticeships in the first year.
Ms Milburn the chief executive of the Prince's Trust said "Almost one in five young people are out of work or training, this scheme will help thousands develop the vocational skills they need to get a job." The Trust says more than 10,000 places will be available in the first five years.
Jim Knight, the schools minister, said a "September guarantee" meant all local authorities would identify, contact and offer students a place in learning or training post-16 and that included tracking those at risk of dropping out after GCSE.
