Reduction in Antenatal Services

The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) have been quoted as saying "women are being deprived of much-needed advice and support" as hospitals in parts of England and Wales are reducing or axing antenatal services.

It appears that financial problems within the NHS are causing the reductions.

The NCT began compiling reports from members last year and is aware of 19 areas across England and Wales where antenatal classes have either been reduced or closed.

Concerns surround the fact that poorer people are having their services reduced whilst the more affluent are able to afford private antenatal classes with the NCT.
