Tantrums

Posted by: Zoe Surrey Posts: 11

Just wondering how you all deal with tantrums. I am specifically talking about the age group 2-7 because I have yet experience beyond. I have 2 things up my sleeve; humour and distraction, both of which are stragically used before they see red...if it goes beyond that point then i am in trouble!

Tantrums are a fact of life with children of the ages of 2 to 4. There is no magic wand, but the more you explain to children why they can't do something or why they have to do something the better. Even better of you can explain things to them before a tantrum even starts.

Thanks for the reassurance.. I must admit I sometimes think it is never going to end.. have just come out of another battle.

I will try and explain things abit more, I suppose i take it for granted that they understand why they can't do something when in fact they don't.

I will keep you posted.

The great art of empathy in your average 3 year old is yet to be developed! I agree, with tactics to try to avoid the tantrums, but I suppose you never know when they might erupt.
There is no point in trying to reason with a child whilst they are having a tantrum...emotions are running high on both sides.
I think it's always best to not give in and resolve after the tantrum.....but I know that all this is easier said than done. How about headphones?

My children would like to know if you have any tips on what they should do when their parents have tantrums.
