What to Look Out For When Buying a Trampoline?
So you've decided to buy a trampoline. But what makes a good trampoline? How can you be sure that the trampoline you decide on is safe? Will it serve your children with years of fun, or just a few months? Read on to find top tips for choosing the right trampoline.
What Size?
Trampolines come in a range of sizes, the main being 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, 13ft, 14ft and 15ft. Choosing one of these standard sizes will make it easier for you to find accessories and replacement parts, should you need any.
6ft trampolines are ideal for young children, smaller gardens and also if you plan to use your trampoline for adult fitness. 10ft and above are suited to larger gardens and older children and teenagers.
Which Accessories?
It's quite easy to get lost in the minefield of accessories available to compliment your trampoline.
A safety enclosure is a must-have for your trampoline as the majority of accidents happen on trampolines with no enclosures. When buying a safety net, make sure you get one that's easy to take down, to prevent the trampoline from blowing away in high winds.
A ladder will stop children from jumping off the trampoline, which is another major cause of trampoline accidents. If you plan to use your trampoline all year round, a weather cover and an anchor kit will protect it from the elements and ensure that it doesn't blow away.
Lastly, a safety skirt will stop pets from running under the trampoline to fetch a ball and getting injured in the process.
How do I know it's safe?
Try and find a high quality trampoline, usually the cheaper the price, the more likely it is to fall apart! Make sure you opt for a trampoline with a long guarantee (around 5 years) on the frame, as these are the hardest parts to replace. Make sure it meets British and European safety standards and all the components should be cadmium tested for safety. Find more trampoline safety information from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA).
